Stefan Sernek - Accordion, Bass, Vocals
Son
of Stefan Sernek Senior, a humble carpenter from Slovenia, Stefan
Jr was confined to a life of cabinet-making & Bavarian oom pah-pah
accordion playing - that was until he heard the rockin' sounds of
buckwheat zydeco pulsating from his radio. The Alpine Echo's were
promptly disbanded & Psycho Zydeco was conceived.
November
89' was the start of a new musical education for me. Clifton Chenier,
Boozoo Chavis, Rockin' Dopsie & Queen Ida were early influences,
followed by Terrence Simien & Beau Jocque.
..
"Finally I found a home for the squeeze box that was blues
based & cool to play". Stefan embodies the phase "bon
temps roulet" - let the good times roll - with living life
to its fullest. Along with his psychotic squeeze-box playing he
keeps the bands bottom end pumping along with the help of an old
analogue bass/organ set up, all triggered from his left hand. He
builds kitchens like a maniac, owns the Zydeco van & has a passion
for movies with cajun/zydeco sound tracks.

Gregg Hatton - Guitar, Frottoir, Triangle, Vocals
Also
from the Zydeco school of cabinet making. Gregg abandoned his Neil
Young & Hendrix type ambitions & formed Psycho Zydeco with
Stefan after they met on the factory floor in the early 90's.
After
many dealings with shady characters over the years, it became evident
that Gregg was the only person responsible enough to take on bookings
& managing the Zydeco machine. He has a talent for organising
the other 3 less organised band members both musically & logistically,
early morning wake up calls, consistent hassling & simple reverse
- psychology are some of the many tricks he employs. When he is
not doing any of the above he is constantly restoring his very old
house.

Christopher Wilson - Saxophone, Frottoir, Triangle, Vocals
Classical,
Funk, Rock, Jazz and the music from Frank Zappa, a true chameleon,
but for Chris performing live is where its at. "The success
of our overseas tours along with the evolution of our recordings
is something I'm quite proud of
..and to win over a first time
audience is a big thrill".
Chris
stumbled into Psycho Zydeco in January 1993 & cannot escape.
As well as playing & teaching Chris spends a lot of the time
contemplating the formation of the universe & the fabric of
space & time.
"Zydeco
definitely has a major role to play in the evolution of the human
species on this planet".

Gene Gill - Drums and Percussion
Gene
blames long time musical friend Chris Wilson for his involvement
in Psycho Zydeco. " At first I thought it might be some kind
of death-metal hybrid with a name like that " says Gene. Listening
to recordings by Buckwheat Zydeco & Rockin' Dopsie soon put
him on the right track "I think drumming wise Zydeco has the
simplicity & drive of Rock, Blues or even Folk beats layered
with the insistent syncopated rhythms you would find in African
music or similar".
Hailing
originally from Tasmania, Gene started playing professionally as
a percussionist in a funk band & then classically with the Tasmanian
symphony orchestra. He has played all kinds of things in venues
& pubs all over the world & other places.
